Written and prepared by the General Director of the German National Theater, this booklet has never before been fully translated into English, and provides a first-hand insight into what the National Socialist regime considered “degenerate music.”
The main body of the work is Dr. Ziegler’s opening address at the opening of the exhibition on May 24, 1938. It then contains several pages of exhibits, posters, advertisements and other examples of the type of music and musical styles under discussion.
This booklet was ordered destroyed after 1945 in Germany, and only a handful of copies escaped this order.
This edition is not an “internet PDF” copy, but a high-quality, full-resolution reproduction taken from an extremely expensive and rare copy.
It contains the full German original booklet, followed by a complete and thorough English translation, including in both instances all of the original images.
The translation is complete and includes all the posters, advertisements, newspaper clippings and more.
